The Canadian finance firm Toronto Dominion purchased the naming rights of the stadium in 1999 for their TD Waterhouse division. The venue was named TD Waterhouse Centre until 2006. The other two buildings in the Orlando Centroplex also used Centre in their name - Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre and Orlando Expo Centre. TD Ameritrade purchased TD Waterhouse's U.S. operations and chose not to renew the naming rights. The venue was known as "The Arena in Orlando" for about a week until a new naming rights contract was signed with Amway. After approval by the city council the building was named Amway Arena. Amway paid $1.5 million over a period of 4 years for the naming rights and have the option to negotiate for naming rights on the New Orlando Magic Arena.
